Welcome to WUGS!

By way of introduction, the mission of WUGS is to promote a norm of giving in the Wharton undergraduate community by facilitating acts of kindness in a way that positively impacts the student experience. We envision a more amicable undergraduate community and a further integrated Wharton student body, where students are educated about the benefits of giving to others versus taking from others.

How were we founded and why do we believe in giving, you might ask? In the fall of 2012, the founders of WUGS were students of award winning professor and author Dr. Adam Grant, whose breaking edge research on giving and taking highlighted the value-add of having givers in a network. As Dr. Grant’s New York Times bestseller Give & Take illustrates, over time givers outperform takers by helping others along the way out of pure intentions.

Driven by the results of Dr. Grant’s research and a further look into undergraduate Whartonites’ attitude and perception of success, we founded WUGS in the spring of 2013 to spread Dr. Grant’s message and endorse a new dimension of success! We are now a group of nine Wharton undergraduates with different backgrounds and experiences, but what brings us together is a strong belief in the benefits of a giver culture.

We hope you’ll join us in our effort to achieve our mission! Additionally, we encourage you to apply for a position on one of our committees, as it is a great way for you to develop some of the skills needed to ensure the success of a newly launched organization!

Our Goals

The mission of the Wharton Undergraduate Giving Society is to promote a norm of giving in the Wharton undergraduate community by facilitating acts of kindness in a way that positively impacts the student experience and creating opportunities to help others.

Our vision is to build a more amicable undergraduate community, educate others about the benefits of giving, and to further integrate the Wharton student body.

Above all, we value giving, reciprocity, creativity, and accountability in our everyday interactions with others.
