About WUGS
Welcome to WUGS, the Wharton Undergraduate Giving Society!
WUGS is a club dedicated to promoting a culture of giving in the Wharton undergraduate community by providing opportunities for giving-related interaction and education. Inspired by Give and Take by Wharton Professor Adam Grant, WUGS encourages students to become givers: to help others and drive their own success.
But what exactly does it mean for giving to drive one’s success? Research by Professor Grant shows that givers, individuals who help others without expecting anything in return, consistently rise to the top of corporations: they experience greater success than either those who give and take in equal proportions or those who take more than they give.
As a club, WUGS spreads a philosophy of interpersonal giving: actions such as favors, mentorship, time and resources given from one individual to another. We are not a community service organization, nor are we a philanthropy club. Rather, we are a society of people who believe that giving behaviors, acts that benefit one’s community before oneself, are, indirectly, a viable strategy for increasing organizational productivity and personal success.
Our Mission: To promote a culture of giving in the Wharton Undergraduate community through opportunities for interaction and education, thereby positively impacting the student experience.
Our Vision: A Wharton student body knowledgeable of the benefits of giving over taking who applies these principles in order to create a more amicable and integrated community.
